Gigabyte MX31-BS0 – ROM Image is Not Loaded | ROM Image Update Denied Error
Recently, I mothballed my 3 x Gev IV servers in replacement of my new home lab. Being they were just lying around, I wanted to find a use for them. I decided to use one as a Sophos UTM firewall. The motherboard is the Gigabyte MX31-BS0 and it should work quite well for that purpose. However, after powering up the server it beeped with 2 Beeps followed by 4 Beeps, then the server would boot to BIOS and go to the Recovery Page displaying this message – ‘ROM Image is Not Loaded. ROM Image Update Denied Error.’
Looking up the beep codes this indicated a ‘Recovery Started’ and ‘S3 Resume failure’
Things I tried –
- Reset BIOS back to default settings
- Ensured all BIOS settings were correct and enabled (per various blog posts)
These things didn’t resolve the issue. I started to think about flashing the BIOS but didn’t, and then it hit me what if there was a jumper miss-match? Its not likely, being I’ve had this system working for quite a while.
The Very Simple Solution – For some reason jumper #4 was missing, I simply replaced the jumper and the system booted normally. I can only guess it came loose at some point and fell off. I could also see how someone installing the RAM could have bumped it loose.
Wrap up – I know this solution seems hardly deep enough content for a blog post, but when I was searching for suggestions I never found one suggesting to check your jumpers.
If you like my ‘no-nonsense’ videos and blogs that get straight to the point… then post a comment or let me know… Else, I’ll start posting really boring content!
